Uber to add 25,000 EVs to India fleet, signs MoU with Tata Motors

Uber signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Indian car maker Tata Motors, to bring 25,000 electric vehicles onto its platform.

The agreement is the largest EV commitment yet between an automaker and a ridesharing platform in India. Tata Motors will begin deliveries of XPRES-T EVs to Uber fleet partners in a phased manner starting this month.

The partnership will aid the electrification of Uber service across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.

An Uber press release said, “We believe that a sustainable future is best achieved through collaboration. As Uber continues to move towards its zero-emissions goal, the partnership with Tata Motors will lay the groundwork for meaningful expansion of four-wheeler electric vehicles (EVs) on a mobility platform in India. Uber has committed to 100% of rides taking place in zero-emission vehicles, on public transit, or with micro-mobility by 2040.”

“We are very happy to work with industry partners that are leading the change. We are focussed on finding new, innovative and affordable ways to help drivers and fleets go electric and will lean in on industry partnerships across EV manufacturers, Fleet and EV infra partners among others to advance EV transition,” said Uber.

Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said, “Working towards our aim of growing India’s e-mobility market, we are delighted to announce our partnership with Uber, India’s leading ridesharing app, for their expansion of sustainable mobility options. With this association, we have taken another leap towards enhancing electric mobility across the country, and will continue our work in ‘Moving India’ to a safer, smarter and greener future.”

Odisha witnesses 15pc rise in crime; 3135 rapes, 1301 murders in 2022

Odisha witnessed a 14.65 per cent rise in crime in 2022, revealed the Home Department white paper released on Monday.

While 1.55 lakh crimes were registered in 2021, over 1.78 lakh criminal cases were registered in the year 2022 which included 1,301 murder and 3,135 rape cases.

As per the white paper, the law and order situation in the State was by and large peaceful in the year 2022.

While a total of 1,379 murder complaints were filed, only 1301 were found to be true.

Similarly, while 3184 rape complaints were lodged, 3,135 cases were found to be true. The police department also registered 614 robberies and 2248 riot cases during the same year.
