IT raid on two mining companies in Odisha

The Income Tax department sleuths raided two mining companies – Serajuddin & Co. and Yazdani International Pvt Ltd on Wednesday

The raids were reportedly carried out over income tax evasion.

Simultaneous raids were conducted at offices and residences linked to both companies in Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Barbil and Keonjhar.

IT personnel with the help of local police raided the offices of Serajuddin & Co at Keonjhar town, Joda, Barbil and Kolkata.

Another team of IT officials also raided a Kalyan Mandap linked to Serajuddin & Co.

As per reports, the sleuths verified all the documents pertaining to their income and expenditure in the closed-door raids.

This is not the first time the IT department has raided the Odisha mining companies. Earlier in 2016, IT department had raided both these companies.

Indian Air Force’s Mirage Jets Boom In UK Skies For First Time During Air Exercise

IAF’s famed Mirage aircrafts joined an air exercise in UK for first time since induction. Mirage 2000 jets participated in multi-national exercise ‘Cobra Warrior 2023’ at Waddington. IAF has sent 5 Mirage-2000, two C-17 Globemaster-III & a IL-78 mid-air refueling jet to the drill. Mirage, India’s frontier fighter jets stunned the world with Balakot airstrikes in Pakistan in 2019. India has upgraded its entire Mirage fleet with advanced avionics, weapons & self-protection suites. Belgium, US, Finland and Saudi Arabia are participating in the Royal Air Force-hosted air exercise.

High drama in Bhubaneswar as man climbs atop hoarding, threatens to end life; rescued

A high-voltage drama unfolded near Sishu Bhawan Square in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday morning after a man scaled a hoarding tower and threatened to end his life. 

However, the drama ended after he was rescued by fire service personnel after an hour-long operation.

The man has been identified as Tulu Patra from Balasore district. He is a driver by profession. However, the reason behind his suicide bid is yet to be ascertained.

Tulu has been detained at the Capital police station after his rescue operation. His questioning is currently underway.

As per reports, Tulu climbed the tower, which is around 30 ft height, in the morning and attempted to commit suicide. He was spotted by local people shouting some slogans against the injustice meted out to him.

Upon being informed, police rushed to the spot and called up fire services personnel. Following this, a 10-member team from the fire services department rushed to the spot and rescued the man after an hour-long operation.

“The investigation is currently underway. The reason behind Tulu’s suicide bid will be ascertained after his questioning,” said Capital Police Station IIC.

As per some local residents, Tulu was complaining that his wife and children are not obeying him.

Infant killed, 4 others injured in LPG cylinder blast in Odisha

In an LPG cylinder blast incident, a 40-day-old infant was killed and four others sustained severe injuries at Mirzapur near Chandipur in Balasore district on Tuesday evening. 

According to a source, the mishap occurred at one Sheikh Bhallu’s house. The cylinder caught fire when his wife was cooking food in the evening.

In the mishap, Bhallu’s 40-day-old infant died on the spot while the couple, their second daughter and another person were injured critically. Hearing the sound, neighbours came to the family’s rescue. 

They rescued Bhallu’s six-year-old daughter and another person, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, and immediately rushed them to the Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH).

“The incident occurred at around 6.30 PM. Bhallu, his wife and their middle daughter have been admitted to the hospital. Their elder daughter is safe,” said a relative. 

Local Tehsildar, Nirlipta Mohanty said, “Since the infant couldn’t be rescued, he was killed in the mishap. The couple and their daughter have been admitted to the hospital. The administration is with the family and will extend all possible help to them.”
