How to report minimum wage law violations in your state, know here
The minimum wage law in India is a basic labour protection that ensures workers receive a fair and livable wage for their work.
Unfortunately, not all employers abide by this law, and many workers are underpaid or denied overtime compensation.
If you are in such a situation, you can take action to report your employer’s violation of the minimum wage law.
Locate your state labour office:
If you are not being paid the minimum wage or overtime compensation, the first step is to approach your state’s labour office and file a complaint. You can easily locate your state’s labour office by doing a quick online search.
Some states even accept complaints online, making it even easier for you to file a complaint. By approaching your state’s labour office, you can ensure that your employer is held accountable for their actions, and you can receive the wages you are entitled to.
Factors that determine minimum wages:
The minimum wage law is based on four factors: skill level, occupation, industry, and zone. For instance, if we take the example of Odisha, the minimum wage rate differs based on zones. If you consider Bhubaneswar, the wage rate is higher, but if you consider Angul, the wage rate is relatively low.
Similarly, urban areas have a higher wage rate compared to rural areas. If you want to know your state’s minimum wages, you can simply search “Odisha minimum wages notifications” on Google. The first result will provide you with detailed information about daily and monthly minimum wage rates in your state.
File online at PG portal:
If you come across any government site that pays very low wages, you can file a complaint online at PG Portal. This portal is designed to address public grievances and ensure the timely resolution of complaints.
By filing a complaint on this portal, you can rest assured that your complaint will be taken seriously, and the necessary action will be taken accordingly.

Electricity Amendment Bill not to impact agriculture sector, says Power Minister
The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022 covers amendments related to power sector and there is no amendment proposal related to agriculture sector, the Parliament was told on Tuesday.
Power Minister R.K. Singh gave the assurance in response to a question in Lok Sabha during Question Hour.
“Further, the provision of subsidy as in the present Act i.e. Electricity Act, 2003 is not proposed to be changed and the states can continue to give subsidy to farmers and other consumers as they are doing at present,” he said.
As per Electricity Act, 2003, the subsidy to specific categories of consumers including domestic and farmers is decided by state governments.
The proposed legislation is currently under consideration of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy, which is headed by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal.
Last year during the Monsoon session, the Electricity (Amendment) Bill was referred to the Parliamentary Committee by the power minister, immediately after being introduced in Lok Sabha, amid protests by opposition that it encroached upon powers of states and allows privatisation of electricity on the lines of communication sector.
Savarkar’s grandson warns of filing FIR against Rahul Gandhi
Spelling fresh troubles for Rahul Gandhi, the grandson of V.D. Savarkar has now demanded an apology from the disqualified Congress MP besides threatening to file an FIR against him for his remarks on the late Hindutva ideologue.
“My name is not Savarkar, I won’t apologise,” Rahul Gandhi had said after he was disqualified from the Lok Sabha following his conviction by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case.
Savarkar’s grandson Ranjit Savarkar, who’s the Chairman of the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, said that if Rahul Gandhi fails to apologise for his comments, he would lodge a police complaint against the Congress leader.
“He (Rahul Gandhi) must prove that Swatantryaveer Savarkar had apologised to the British for his release from the cellular jail in the Andaman Islands… I have done it (filing FIR) in the past, I shall do it again,” an agitated Ranjit Savarkar told mediapersons.
Rahul Gandhi had made the controversial statement a day after he was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member following a Surat court slapping a two-year jail term on him in the defamation case.
Taking strong umbrage, Ranjit Savarkar also urged ex-Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar to speak to Rahul Gandhi and ask him to tender an apology.
Not satisfied with Thackeray and Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut flaying the Congress leader in the past couple of days for his remarks, Ranjit Savarkar demanded that “they must ask Gandhi to apologise for his statements on Swatantryaveer Savarkar”.
Ranjit Savarkar also pointed out how when he was the CM in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which aslo included the NCP and the Congress, Thackeray reportedly took no action when an objectionable article appeared in a Congress publication, ‘Shidori’.
“At that time, I had demanded that Thackeray should act in the matter, but I got no reply to my letter, nor was any action taken,” he said.
The ruling Shiv Sena-BJP coalition in Maharashtra has slammed Rahul Gandhi for his remarks, while the Sena (UBT) tto has castigated the Congress leader in strong terms.
Besides, some leaders of the NCP-Congress have also expressed their reservations on the issue that could have ramifications on the future of the MVA alliance, though senior Sena (UBT) and Congress leaders have assured that it will not be affected, even as Raut and Thackeray are likely to meet Rahul Gandhi soon to register their displeasure over his Savarkar remarks.
