Nepal pipped Namibia to make it to the third spot of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 after they beat UAE by nine runs (by DLS method) at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground here on Thursday.
Nepal overcame UAE by nine runs in a thriller to book their berth for the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. At this event, they will compete with 10 sides for a place in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
The Rhinos needed 42 runs from 36 balls in the game when the umpires decided that the play couldn’t continue due to bad light. At the time, Nepal were nine runs ahead of the DLS score and took all two points to pip Namibia (39 points) by a solitary point, according to a report on the ICC website.
Chasing a target of 311, Nepal made a horrendous start as they lost Aasif Sheikh (0) and Kushal Malla (5) within the first nine balls. Skipper Rohit Paudel tried to bring a semblance of the order along with Kushal Bhurtel, but fell in the seventh over to Aayan Khan. At 37/3, the game seemed to be slipping away from Nepal’s grasp.
However, Bhim Sarki (67) joined hands with Bhurtel (50) and then Aarif Sheikh (52) to lead Nepal’s fightback in the middle overs. A charge from 17-year-old Gulsan Jha (50*) in the later overs ensured that Nepal were ahead of the required DLS score when umpires decided to take the players off the field.
Earlier in the day, Muhammad Waseem won the toss for UAE and elected to bat, heaping pressure on the hosts by putting a target on the board. The opener then let his batting do the talking, silencing the heaving Tribhuvan University Ground crowd with a range of boundaries.
At the other end, Lalit Rajbanshi turned the volume back up, making a mess of Aryan Lakra’s stumps for just six.
Vriitya Aravind accompanied Waseem, though the latter was eventually brought undone lbw by Sandeep Lamichhane, the leg-spinner’s 99th ODI wicket. The wicket turned proceedings back in the hosts’ favour, and a calamitous piece of running from CP Rizwan (7) ended in an easy run out to help turn the screws.
Aravind continued UAE’s charge almost singlehandedly, bringing up fifty with a guide behind the point of Sompal Kami. The youngster helped UAE to the 200 mark, setting the platform for a late blitz from his teammates.
With Aravind holding one end, Asif Khan joined the party and took on the Nepal bowlers. The right-hander spared no one, even hitting four back-to-back sixes off Lamichhane in one over. He hit as many as 11 sixes in his outstanding knock of 101* off just 42 balls – the fourth-fastest century in men’s ODIs.

Jharsuguda police on Sunday picked up one person from Burla in connection with the sensational case of kidnapping and murder of a Class X student Samarth Agrawal.
The person has been detained and is being interrogated by the police. However, Jharsuguda police has not yet revealed the identity of the person and the exact reason behind his detention.
Though police arrested two accused- Amit Kumar Sharma of Jharsuguda and Dinesh Kumar Agarwal of Brajrajnagar- in connection with the case, the exact motive behind the crime is yet to be established.
Police have reportedly taken both the accused to Burla and Bheden last night. It has been revealed that the boy was taken to Burla after he was kidnapped and kept at a house.
Earlier on March 28, police had recovered the body of Samarth Agarwal, son of a businessman from Sarbahal, Bargarh. Amit along with his aide Dinesh abducted Samarth on March 27 while the latter was on his way for cricket practice on a scooter.
As per the allegation, the duo first demanded Rs 50 lakh and later Rs 90 lakh from Samarth’s father. Gradually, mystery has been deepened surrounding the case. Police are currently investigating different aspects of the case.
Meanwhile, friends of the deceased and several local residents took out a rally from Manmohan School till Jharsuguda police station demanding justice and dealt penalty for the accused.
Several youth and women’s organisations, students, and residents of the town took part in the rally. They met the IIC at Jharsuguda police station and submitted a memorandum.

Nokia and NASA team up to bring 4G internet service on the moon

Have you ever thought about watching Instagram reels while moonwalking? Well, Nokia is making this possible by setting up a 4G network in space.
This initiative is in collaboration with NASA, and the 4G mobile network will be launched in a SpaceX rocket near the end of 2023.
But, you may wonder why there is a need for a 4G network on the moon. It turns out that it will help in the Artemis 1 mission.
The 4G network will enable remote control of the rover, real-time video streaming, and transmission of telemetry data back to Earth.
These capabilities will be incredibly helpful for the astronauts working on the moon, as well as for the scientists and engineers monitoring their work from Earth.
The first launch is scheduled for November 2023, and the technology will be used only for astronauts and the equipment used on the moon’s surface.
Nokia is setting up the 4G network on the moon with the help of NASA’s Tipping Point program. Communication between equipment, astronauts, and Earth will be fast, and it will be possible to make WhatsApp video calls from the moon to Earth using this technology.
You may wonder why Nokia is opting for 4G instead of 5G. The reason is simple – it’s because the Earth doesn’t have a better 5G network yet.
Nokia is also planning to launch a 5G network on the moon in the future, but for now, 4G is the best option. With the 4G network, astronauts can stay connected with their office update back on Earth, and they can share their experiences in real-time.

Mystery shrouds the death of a gym owner at Bhakarsahi under Balipatna police limits on the outskirts of the Capital city of Bhubaneswar. The deceased has been identified as Rashmi Ranjan Biswal. Family members of Rashmi are under scanner as they slyly conducted post-death rituals in a hush-hush manner without informing the police.
Moreover, before his death, Rashmi had recorded a video in which he claims that he would be killed by his family members. The matter came to the fore after his video went viral.
Local police have swung into action and started a probe into the incident. Circumstantial evidence indicates it to be a case of murder, police said adding that a forensic team visited the cremation ground and has collected some samples for examination.
In the viral video, Rashmi can be heard saying, “My name is Rashmi Ranjan Biswal. I’m from Bhakarsahi, Banamalipur, Khordha. A few people are trying to kill me including my family members like Satyanarayan Biswal, Smrutiranjan Biswal, Swarnalata Sahu.”
“If I die, then the government should try to find out the reason for my death. All of them should be punished under the law. I’m sure, I will be killed. So, I’m releasing this video and requesting the government to give them stringent punishment,” he added.
When contacted, deceased Rashmi Ranjan’s aunt said, “He went to sleep after dinner on Thursday night. I don’t know about the video. Please investigate the matter.”
“Police should conduct a thorough probe and punish the culprits. He clearly named three people before his death. So, they should be given strict to stricter punishment,” said Kanhu Patra, a local villager.
SN Muduli, ACP Zone – 4, Bhubaneswar said, “We are probing the matter, but the deceased’s family members are not cooperating in the investigation. Through local inquiry, we came to know that the family members burnt his body in a hush-hush manner. The circumstances are very suspicious and he has himself stated in the video that he would be killed. So, we have registered a case of murder, and a thorough probe is on.”
