The official Twitter account for the Odd Taxi series announced on Friday that the anime is inspiring a new project titled RoOT/Route of Odd Taxi (stylized with a backwards R in “RoOT”). The project launched with a manga by Odd Taxi manga creator Takeichi Abaraya and original series creator Kadzuya Konomoto on Big Comic Superior‘s web manga site Darupana on the same day. The manga’s visual shows the main characters Satō and Reina.

The television anime premiered in Japan in April 2021 and aired for 13 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the anime in the West.
The story follows Odokawa, an eccentric, reticent 41-year-old taxi driver who has no relatives and does not have much to do with others. He does have conversations with his customers, including a college student who wants to go viral, a nurse hiding a secret, an unsuccessful comedian, a street rough, and an up-and-coming idol. These conversations lead him to a girl who has disappeared.
Manga creator Konomoto (Seto Utsumi) wrote the anime. Baku Kinoshita directed the anime with Norio Nitta as the assistant director. Kinoshita and Hiromi Nakayama designed the characters. Kōhei Yoshida was the recording director at Pony Canyon Enterprise. PUNPEE VaVa OMSB were in charge of the music, and Pony Canyon was in charge of music production with collaboration by Summit, Inc. P.I.C.S. and OLM produced the anime. P.I.C.S. was also credited for the original work and planning.
The Odd Taxi: In the Woods film is a “reconstruction” of the television anime episodes, but it also depicts what happens after the television anime’s finale. The film opened in 34 theaters in Japan in April 2022, ranking at #10 and earning 52 million yen (approximately US$4,23,685) in its first weekend. The television anime’s main cast and staff returned, and ASMIK Ace is distributing. Crunchyroll is streaming the film.
Odd Taxi: Diamond wa Kizutsukanai (Diamonds Will Not Be Damaged), the stage play inspired by the Odd Taxi television anime, ran at Otemachi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo from January 25-31 and at Cool Japan Park Osaka TT Hall in Osaka from February 4-5. The play was originally scheduled to run from July 7-18 in Tokyo, but it was delayed due to COVID-19.

Disney Senior Dubbing Manager: Heavenly Delusion Anime to Get Simulcast in U.S.

Disney’s senior manager of English dubbing Reuben Lack stated on Twitter on Monday that the television anime adaptation of Masakazu Ishiguro‘s Heavenly Delusion (Tengoku Dai Makyō) manga will get a simulcast in the U.S. The anime will stream on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ worldwide. Lack added that the anime will get an English dub at a later date.
The anime will stream exclusively on Disney+ worldwide on April 1, and will air in Japan on Tokyo MX, Hokkaido TV, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, TV Aichi, MBS, and BS11.
The anime stars:
Hirotaka Mori (episode director for Joker Game, unit director for Psycho-Pass film) is directing the anime at Production I.G. Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass, School-Live!) is overseeing the series scripts, and Utsushita of Minakata Laboratory is the character designer. kensuke ushio (Space Dandy, A Silent Voice, Chainsaw Man) is composing the music.
BiSH is performing the opening theme song “innocent arrogance,” and ASOBI is performing the ending theme song “Daremo Karemo Dokomo Nanimo Shiranai” (I Don’t Know Anyone Anywhere Anything).
Denpa is releasing the manga in English, and it describes the story:
Within the safety of the walls, youths are raised in a nursery-style setting by robots. While life there may appear stale on the surface, the children are full of potential and curiosity. In many ways it is like a slice of heaven. The outside world is a hell-scape. It is almost entirely void of anything mechanical and is now inhabited by bizarre, yet powerful super-natural beings.
Maru, with the aid of Kiruko, is out there crisscrossing what was once Tokyo for heaven. But after searching for so long, maybe heaven is more of an untenable dream than a potential reality.
Ishiguro (And Yet the Town Moves) launched the ongoing manga in Kodansha‘s Afternoon magazine in January 2018. The manga had an animated promotional video to commemorate the first volume’s release in July 2018. The manga topped the list of manga for male readers in the 2019 edition of Takarajimasha‘s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook.

Azuki announced on Tuesday that it will digitally publish NAZ and Masato Fujisaki‘s Gloomy Bear: Apocalyptic Love manga based on Mori Chack’s Gloomy Bear character in English on April 4. The one-shot manga will be available on Azuki‘s website as well as on its iOS and Android applications.
Azuki describes the manga’s story:
A young man and woman have kept keychains as mementos of each other, even after they drifted apart. But one day, when they find themselves under attack by zombies, the keychains come to life to protect them! Can Gloomy Bear and All-Purpose Bunny defeat the zombies and bring the two back together?
Mori Chack created the Gloomy Bear character in 2000. The illustrator also created characters such as Podolly and Kumakikai.
The Itazura Guma no Gloomy (Gloomy the Naughty Grizzly) television anime series premiered in April 2021. The anime celebrated the 20th anniversary of the character. Mori had released a “trial” animated short for the character in 2014.
