Season focuses on Cure, Bakumatsu Arcs
The official Twitter account for the new live-action series of Fumi Yoshinaga‘s Ōoku: The Inner Chambers manga revealed on Wednesday that the series will have a second season that will premiere on NHK this fall. The new season will center on the manga’s “Cure Arc” and “Bakumatsu Arc” — the first screen adaptation of this part of the story. Yoshiko Morishita (live-action JIN) is returning from the first season to pen the scripts.
The first season premiered on NHK on January 10. The series primarily centers on the Iemitsu, Tsunayoshi, Yoshimune, and Imperial Restoration arcs. Kohta Yamamoto (Attack on Titan The Final Season, Kingdom) composes the music. Lilas Ikuta performs the theme song “Tanpopo” (Dandelion).
Viz Media publishes the manga in English, and it describes the story:
In Edo period Japan, a strange new disease called the Red Pox has begun to prey on the country’s men. Within eighty years of the first outbreak, the male population has fallen by seventy-five percent. Women have taken on all the roles traditionally granted to men, even that of the Shogun. The men, precious providers of life, are carefully protected. And the most beautiful of the men are sent to serve in the Shogun’s Inner Chamber…
Yoshinaga launched the manga in Hakusensha‘s Melody magazine in 2004, and ended it in December 2020. Hakusensha published the manga’s 19th and final volume in February 2021, and Viz Media published the final volume in English in March 2022. The manga won the 2009 James Tiptree, Jr. Award, and won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2009. Its other honors include the 1st anan Manga Prize, the 56th Shogakukan Manga Prize in the shōjo division, the 5th Sense of Gender Prize’s Special Award, and most recently, the Grand Prize in the 42nd Nihon SF Taishō Awards.
The manga has already inspired a previous live-action film adaptation in 2010, a live-action television series titled Ōoku: Arikoto・Iemitsu Hen in October 2012, and a second live-action film titled Ōoku: Eien – Emonnosuke・Tsunayoshi Hen in December of the same year.

Anime re-airs from episode 1

The official website for the television anime of Kentaro Yabuki‘s Ayakashi Triangle manga announced on Tuesday that the anime will restart its originally scheduled broadcast of 12 episodes in July. The anime will re-air from episode 1. Broadcast dates and times will be announced in the future.
The staff delayed the fifth episode and beyond in January due to the effects of COVID-19 on the production schedule. The fourth episode aired on schedule on January 30, but the anime began reruns on February 6, the fifth episode’s originally scheduled air date. The fifth episode later aired on March 6 after a delay, and the sixth episode followed on March 13. However, instead of the seventh episode on March 20, a recap special for the first six episodes aired on that day. A special program then aired the following week.
The first Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume of the anime has also been delayed from March 29 to September 27. The subsequent second to the sixth monthly volumes have also been delayed to October 2023 to February 2024.
Ayakashi Triangle is the third Aniplex television anime this season to suffer from delays, following NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a and UniteUp!.
The show premiered on January 9 in Japan, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.
Noriaki Akitaya (Bakuman., Castle Town Dandelion, Slow Loop) is directing the anime at CONNECT, with Kei Umabiki as assistant director. Shogo Yasukawa (Hyperdimension Neptunia, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, The Executioner and Her Way of Life) is in charge of the series scripts. Hideki Furukawa (Strike The Blood III, IV, FINAL, Battle Girl High School, Invaders of the Rokujyōma!?) is designing the characters. Jin Aketagawa is the sound director, and Rei Ishizuka (A Couple of Cuckoos, PriPara) is composing the music.
Viz Media and Shueisha are both publishing the manga in English digitally, and Seven Seas is releasing the compiled book volumes digitally and physically in English. Seven Seas describes the story:
Teenager Kazamaki Matsuri has long been part of an elite force of ninja exorcists, tasked with fighting malicious ayakashi spirits who threaten Japan–especially those after his childhood friend, the spirit medium Kanade Suzu. As he fiercely protects her, and his relationship with her blooms from friendship into something more, a powerful cat ayakashi vows to get between the lovebirds: by casting a forbidden spell that turns Matsuri into a woman! With no apparent way to undo the spell, Matsuri must continue battling ayakashi–and go back to school–in this new feminine body until he can find a way to turn back.
Seven Seas released the second uncut volume on February 7.
