Megaton Musashi Season 2 Delays Last 2 Episodes Further Due to COVID-19
The official website for Level 5‘s Megaton-kyū Musashi multimedia project announced on Friday that it is delaying the final two episodes of the second season again. Episode 27 has been delayed from February 24 to March 10, and episode 28 has been delayed from March 3 to March 17. Episode 25 and 26 will instead air on February 24 and March 3, respectively.
Level 5 cited COVID-19 again as the reason — specifically, that the staff is still recovering from the production delays already caused by the spread of COVID-19 in China at the end of last year.
The anime staff had previously delayed episode 18 from November 4 to November 18 to improve the episode’s quality. The episode 18 delay also affected episode 19’s production schedule. The anime’s 19th episode was delayed to December 2. Then, the staff delayed the last five episodes further to February or later.
The Megaton Musashi X (Cross) game for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch was delayed from December 1 to December 8, then delayed again to December 16. The game’s staff cited the anime’s delays as the reason, since the game’s content is tied to the anime.
The anime’s second season premiered on October 7 on Tokyo MX at 10:00 p.m. before airing on BS Fuji and Level 5‘s YouTube channel. The first season’s Special Edition, featuring new cuts, premiered on July 8 on the same channels. The second season is a continuation of the Special Edition.
The second season features a returning cast and crew.
Level 5 founder and president Akihiro Hino (Yōkai Watch original concept) is credited as the anime’s chief director and original creator, and he is also writing and supervising the anime’s scripts. Shigeharu Takahashi (Yo-kai Watch: The Movie) is directing the anime at OLM. Takuzō Nagano (Yōkai Watch) is credited for original character designs, and Yūji Ikeda (Inazuma Eleven) is designing those characters for animation. Toshihiko Kuriaki is credited for art concepts. Ken’ichirō Saigō (Yōkai Watch) is composing the music. Ryō Tanaka (Granblue Fantasy the Animation) is the audio director.
The anime’s first season premiered on Tokyo MX and BS Fuji in October 2021 and aired its final episode in December 2021.
The project includes a television anime, game, collaboration with Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, toys by Bandai, and an internet anime spinoff titled “After School.” Level 5 announced the project in 2016, initially with a planned start time of summer 2017.
The story takes place after 90 percent of humanity was wiped out due to an invasion. Survivors live in a shelter where their lives are monitored, and memories of the invasion erased. Three teenagers from the shelter are chosen to pilot three machines that combine to form the Musashi robot, made out of a material named Megatronium alloy. The series balances robot action with school life.
Each different medium—game, anime, or other—tells the story from the point of view of a different set of characters.
ReedPop, ESA to re-evaluate E3’s future after companies declined to appear
Event production company ReedPop announced on Friday that the physical and digital versions of the E3 2023 video game expo have both been canceled. ReedPop added that it and Entertainment Software Association (ESA) “will re-evaluate the future of E3.”
ESA announced on September 26 that it would partner with ReedPop to bring back the in-person E3 event on June 13-16. E3 Business Days would have taken place from June 13-15, and would be reserved for industry personnel. E3 Gamer Days would have been on June 15-16, and they would have taken place in a different hall from the industry area. There would have also been partnered digital events and showcases before and during the show, starting on June 11.
IGN had reported in January that “multiple knowledgeable sources” told the news agency that Microsoft Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo would not participate in E3 2023. Nintendo confirmed to multiple gaming press outlets last month that it would not be attending the E3 2023 event. Nintendo‘s statement to IGN explained that “this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into [its] plans,” but added it would “continue to be a strong supporter of the ESA and E3.”
Microsoft Xbox confirmed to IGN on March 10 that it would not exhibit on the E3 show floor, but would host their Xbox Games Showcase on June 11, and would co-stream that event as part of E3 Digital (before today’s cancellation announcement).
Sony declined to appear at E3 in 2019, and had not appeared since.
Game developer and publisher SEGA and Tencent subsidiary company Level Infinite both confirmed to IGN on Tuesday that they would not attend the E3 2023 video game expo event.
E3 last had a physical event in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was “exploring options for an online E3 event” after canceling the physical event the summer of 2020, but eventually decided not to present an online version.

Kodansha USA Licenses Gachiakuta, Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!, Love, That’s an Understatement Manga
Kodansha USA Publishing announced that it has licensed the Gachiakuta and Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! manga for print release in fall, and the Love, That’s an Understatement for digital release in April.

Urana launched the manga in Kodansha‘s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022. Hideyoshi Ando is credited for graffiti design. Kodansha published the manga’s fifth compiled volume on February 17.
Urana had revealed last August that the “overseas version” of the manga was in production.

Game launches for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC on October 6
Bandai Namco Entertainment America began streaming an English-subtitled trailer for the Sword Art Online: Last Recollection action role-playing game on Thursday. The video previews the story and gameplay. It also reveals the Fire Goddess Ignia and the Wind Goddess Aeria:
The game will launch in the West for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on October 6. The game will launch in Japan on October 5.
The game will tell its own version of the War of Underworld arc, different from the original light novel series or anime. The staff promises that the game will feature the franchise‘s largest character roster and number of story episodes. ReoNa is returning to the franchise to perform the game’s theme song “VITA.”
Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, the first anime film in the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- anime film series, opened in Japan in October 2021. Sword Art Online The Movie – Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night, the second film, was slated to open on September 10 but opened on October 22 after a delay.
The franchise is launching a “brand-new original film project.”
